With all funding in place and a new title, PAUSE, we are now in the midst of pre-production, loads of hours, meetings, shot lists… Happy times!
So happy that I was part of the jury of the International Short Film Festival of Cyprus (15-21 October 2016).
The International Short Film Festival of Cyprus is the official competition festival for short films in Cyprus. The Festival was set up by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and Rialto Theatre in 2000. Initially, it involved only a national competition section, but, since 2011 it expanded into an international competition. The primary focus of the annual, seven day festival in Limassol, is its International and National Competition. Each year, fictional, animated shorts and documentaries up to a maximum of 25 minutes compete for the festival’s generous awards and prizes. The ISFFC’s jury for both sections is comprised each year by five acclaimed film professionals, academics and festival organizers from around the globe.
Proud to have been elected in the Board of Directors of the Directors Guild of Cyprus. The elections took place on 19th February 2016.

My directorial feature film debut MENOPAUSE is developing well after receiving 70% funding from the Film Fund in Cyprus, some development funds from SEE Cinema Network and a possible co-production with Greece through Authorwave Post-Production Company. I am glad to have A.B. Seahorse Film Productions ltd and Producers Andros Achilleos and Stelana Kliris on board in the production. We are now in the process of talking to possible co-producers that we connected with during the project participation in CoCo 2015 (Connecting COttbus) and MMP (Mannheim Meeting Place 2015). Shooting is planned to start in January 2017.
I am happy to announce that I have been selected to attend the Berlinale Talents 2016.
Berlinale Talents is the annual summit and networking platform of the Berlin International Film Festival for 250 outstanding creatives from the fields of film and drama series.
Back in June this year, my film LULLABY OF THE BUTTERFLY was officially selected to participate in the competition of the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival and I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to travel to LA to represent it! The screening took place at the Egyptian Theatre in the heart of Hollywood!
A great experience!
Great news came also in the Summer when I found out that LULLABY OF THE BUTTERFLY has been officially selected at Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival (an Oscar and BAFTA qualifying festival) and I am as we speak planning my trip to Bristol UK. Will post photos on www.lullabyofthebutterfly.com
The greatest news of all is that my debut feature film MENOPAUSE has been selected to take part in two amazing co-production markets Mannheim Meeting Place 19-22 October 2015 (Mannheim Film Festival, Germany) and Connecting Cottbus 5-6 November 2015 (Cottbus International Film Festival, Germany). Looking forward to both! Will keep you posted on more news!
Back in July this year, I was invited to be a member of the International Jury of Countryside Animafest Cyprus — Views of the World a festival running its 14th edition, on July 13 to 18. This year more than 40 distinguished independent filmmakers from all over the world, including Cyprus, armed with their dreams and their craft, expressed a strong social commentary through their films. I was lucky enough to be part of this experience. Special thanks goes to the Artistic Director of the Festival Yiorgos Tsangaris! A wonderful experience and grateful that I met some wonderful people including fellow Jury members Piotr Dumala and Spela Cadez.
In less than a month away, takes place the biggest feature film event in Cyprus, the 13th edition of Cyprus Film Days International Film Festival (17-26 April 2015) on which I have been proudly appointed as one of the Artistic Directors back in November 2014. Fellow artistic committee members include academic Dr. Costas Constantinides and filmmaker Stelana Kliris. We have been working hard trying to make the Festival a great experience for the local film enthusiasts as well as film professionals visiting from abroad. We have organised some amazing workshops in collaboration with the Directors Guild of Cyprus and London Film Academy, and we have an amazing team of jury members.
More details to be posted soon!
I haven’t written in a while and this means that things have been busy… which is a good thing… In the past year, I have shot my 3rd short film “Lullaby of the butterfly” which has finished and already started its Festival run with an amazing Festival for World Premiere, Sarajevo Film Festival… I represented the film and it was an amazing experience, walked the red carpet and everything…!!! The films in competition were only 10 in number which made things even more exciting! Up next was Drama Short Film Festival which I visited as well and had a fantastic time with fellow filmmakers Daina Papadaki, Marios Piperides and the lead actress of the film, Alexia Charalambidou! We had some really good feedback for our film and found out, after the closing ceremony- from one of the judges, that Alexia just missed the Best actress award! Pity, but it was good to know! Athens International Film Festival was next and EkaDeshma in Nepal for our lullaby…. but this week comes the International Short Film Festival of Cyprus, where “Lullaby of the butterfly” makes its National Premiere on Saturday 11th October at 8.30pm in Limassol at Rialto Theatre!
“Dead End”, which is still alive and kicking, has had numerous Festival Competition participations throughout the year, in almost every country you can imagine… to mention a few, Palm Springs Shortfest (California, USA), Mediterranean Film Festival of Tangiers (Morocco), Yerevan Golden Apricot Film Festival (Armenia) and more in Italy, Romania, Finland, UK, Germany, Autralia, France, Belgium, India, Switzerland, South Korea and many more…
Furthermore, I have been very busy with work for the Directors Guild of Cyprus as I was elected to be a member of the board in January 2014! We have done loads of work since then and we are very proud… we have made a website, membership cards, become members of FERA, updated our statute, organised one festival and one masterclass… and we are still going….
Last but not least, I have been Executive Producer and Production manager on 2 feature film productions that we prepared and shot from April-July 2014. This has been very hard as the 2 productions were shot back to back but I hope our hard efforts will show once the films are finished! Both productions, “Family member” by Marinos Kartikkis and “Magic Beans” by Theo Panayides are now in post-production and expected to be completed in 2015.
The Theatre Development Company of Limassol in collaboration with the Embassy of Israel and the Cyprus Centre of International Theatre Institute co-organizes an event for World Theatre Day on March 27, 2014 at Tecnochoros ETHAL.
The event presents a staged reading in the form of a directed play, of the play “The Road to the Windmill” by Electra Georgiades. The play was awarded in 2012, at the First One-act Theatre Competition in Memory Kostis Kolotas.

Tomorrow is the first day of shooting the film “Aishe goes on vacation” by Charis Therapis, the film I am assistant Director and production manager for. One day indoors and two days in the burning sun of July in Cyprus.
In 1974 the code to begin the Turkish invasion was “Aishe goes on holidays”. The massive cold blood executions of Greek Cypriots by the Turkish troops is just one of the many war crimes which took place during this war…
Aishe goes on holidays is the new project I am involved in. It is a short film written, directed and produced by Charis Therapis and is now is pre-production. I am working on the project as assistant director and production manager. Shooting is scheduled mid-july.
On Sunday 26th May was the last show of the play “Αιώνες μακριά από την Αλάσκα” (Centuries away from Alaska) a play written by Greek playwright Akis Demou and directed by myself for Dionysos Theatre in Nicosia.
It was fun, creative, and definitely a challenge since we managed to stage the performance in only 3 weeks!
I can say that the play was a success.
Working with good collaborators is also what makes your work look better! Thank you Nico, Elena, George, Christo, Maria, Angelica and Joanna!
Highlights from the play to be uploaded soon. Stay tuned…
